NEW DELHI: Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin announced on Friday that the school education department will introduce a host of programmes aimed at improving scientific-thinking among government-school students. Stalin also said that teachers will be given training on innovation and social education, through subject experts and academics, to help them generate new ideas on teaching.
The chief minister also said that high-quality textbooks can be the best instrument to improve scientific-thinking.
“Our high-quality textbooks contain the best scientific ideas that students need to know. The teachers themselves can bring out the best ideas needed to face future challenges with confidence and sharpen their knowledge. Chief minister MK Stalin also said that he has directed the school education department to frame new guidelines on providing science-oriented programmes for Tamil Nadu government school children. He said that “individual progress, ethical living and sound ideas for social development” should be inculcated in students through these programmes.
“I have decreed to formulate and issue new guidelines for regulating various programs in schools in the state so that all our school children who are the future generation of Tamilnadu, get progressive-scientific ideas and lifestyles,” said the minister.
Tamil Nadu is also currently working on its own state education policy, which is expected to be different from the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. According to latest reports, a copy of the recommendations have been submitted to the chief minister for approval.
