MP teacher aspirants demand more Varg 2 and Varg 3 vacancies. Several protesters detained in Bhopal, according to a report.

Madhya Pradesh teacher recruitment aspirants staged a protest at Roshanpura Square in Bhopal on October 15, demanding an increase in vacancies for Varg 2 and Varg 3 teachers. The protesters attempted to march towards the chief minister’s residence but were stopped by police barricades. Several candidates were detained after the demonstration, NDTV reported on October 16.
The MP teacher aspirants demanded an additional 3,000 posts in each subject under Varg 2 recruitment and 25,000 posts under Varg 3 recruitment. They said the state government should either increase the vacancies or provide a written explanation stating why the additional posts could not be created.
In a video posted by ANI on X, candidate Narendra Rajput said the aspirants had been protesting since November 17, 2025, even before the recruitment results were declared. He said their concerns had remained unresolved despite repeated demonstrations and assurances from the government.
“On January 6, we held a historic protest—one of the largest ever seen on the streets of Madhya Pradesh—with thousands of aspiring teachers gathering on this very road,” Rajput said, according to ANI.
He added that candidates were assured during the protest that the number of posts would be increased, but no such decision had been implemented.
“If the Education Minister explicitly states that he cannot increase the number of posts, we will leave,” Rajput said. He urged the government to put its earlier assurances in writing, arguing that candidates’ futures should not be put at risk because of the delay.
According to NDTV, the protesters said they did not oppose the 50% reservation for guest teachers but wanted the government to account for this provision while deciding the number of vacancies. Rajput also referred to a provision in the recruitment advertisement that allows the number of posts to be increased or reduced. He asked the government to clarify why the vacancies had not been increased.
According to an NDTV report, the protesting teacher recruitment aspirants claimed that Madhya Pradesh has more than 1.15 lakh sanctioned teaching posts in the Education Department, while around 15,000 posts are included in the ongoing recruitment process. The candidates argued that increasing the number of vacancies would create more employment opportunities for eligible aspirants and help address teacher shortages in government schools.
NDTV reported that the candidates first gathered outside the Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) office before attempting to march towards the chief minister’s residence. Police stopped them at Roshanpura Square, where the protesters staged a sit-in and raised slogans against the government.
The demonstration continued late into the night, and several protesters were detained and taken to Khajuri Sadak police station. The candidates maintained that they would not end their agitation until the government issued a written order on increasing the vacancies.
The aspirants have warned that they may widen the agitation if their demands are not addressed. No government decision on increasing the number of posts was reported in the sources cited above.
