MPSC defers State Services, Civil Engineering, Group-B Main exams; 2025 answer sheets to be re-evaluated

The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has postponed the State Services Main Examination 2026 exam which was scheduled to be held on October 3. The Commission has also deferred the Civil Engineering Main Examination 2026 and Group-B (Non-Gazetted) Main Examination. As of now, the revised date and time have not been announced yet.

"The Commission has received representations from several students, parents, and student organisations, as well as some respected elected representatives, requesting that the State Services Main Examination 2026, scheduled to commence on October 3, be postponed," it said. Considering the requests, the MPSC decided to postpone the State Services Main Examination 2026, the Maharashtra Civil Engineering Main Examination 2026, and the Maharashtra Group-B (Non-Gazetted) Main Examination.

State Services Main Exam answer sheet re-evaluation

The Commission has also decided to re-evaluate the answer sheets of the State Services Main Examination 2025. The decision comes amid protests by aspirants over the alleged question paper leak in the drug inspector examination and concerns regarding the overall conduct of examinations conducted by the commission.

A high-level committee headed by senior bureaucrat V Radha, which is reviewing the existing examination system, has held extensive discussions with several candidates and other stakeholders and studied best practices. The Commission said the panel is expected to submit its recommendations on an ideal examination system shortly.

It said the Commission will re-evaluate the answer sheets of the State Services Main Examination 2025. "Several student organisations and students have submitted objections to the Commission regarding the evaluation of answer sheets of the Maharashtra State Services Main Examination 2025. Taking these objections into consideration, the Commission has decided to conduct re-evaluation of the answer sheets of the State Services Main Examination 2025," the MPSC said. This may result in a delay in the exam process.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray said his party had urged Governor Jishnu Dev Varma to postpone the examination, and the request was accepted. He expressed hope that the Governor would also seek the resignation of MPSC chairman.
