21 teachers of HEIs, polytechnics to get National Teachers’ Award 2026 from President Droupadi Murmu

From the National Teachers’ Award 2026 list, six teachers are from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) among the 21 recipients
The President of India Droupadi Murmu will confer the National Teachers Awards 2026 on 21 teachers of higher education institutions (HEIs) and polytechnics on September 5 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
Notably, 12 teachers from higher education institutions (HEIs), five from state universities (three from government colleges and two from private colleges), and four from polytechnics (two government and two private) have been selected for the teachers’ awards.
Of this year's list of 21 recipients, five are women teachers, and six are from the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) .
Notably, 48 teachers from states, UTs, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS), and Sainik Schools have been selected for the National Teachers’ Award 2026 .

According to the PIB press release, the award is conferred on teachers based on their performance, evaluated against several parameters, including teaching-learning effectiveness, outreach activities, research and innovation, consultancy teaching, and others.
