Department of School Education and Literacy announces 48 awardees for National Teachers Awards 2026; Maharashtra, UP and Rajasthan among states with multiple recipients
The Department of School Education and Literacy has selected 48 teachers for the National Teachers Awards 2026. The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, will confer the National Teachers Awards 2026. The awardees include teachers from states and Union Territories as well as schools under organisations such as Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) and Sainik Schools.
As per the Ministry of Education press release, the National Teachers Awards 2026 will be presented to 48 school teachers at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on September 5, 2026, on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. Short documentaries highlighting the exemplary work and contributions of each awardee will also be showcased during the ceremony.
For the 2026 awards, online self-nominations were invited from eligible teachers from June 15 to July 20, 2026 through the Ministry of Education’s National Teachers Awards portal. A total of 48 school teachers have been selected from 27 states, seven union territories and six Central government organisations. The list comprises 26 male and 22 female teachers and is not arranged according to merit.

National Teachers Awards 2026: State-wise list
Among the 48 awardees, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh have two or more recipients each. Maharashtra has two awardees — Kavita Narsingrao Gitte from Sane Guruji Niwasi Vidyalaya, Kaij, and Ms Kunda Jayawant Bachhav from NMC School No. 18, Anandwali, Nashik.
