NDMC inaugurates AI, AR and VR lab in Delhi's Navyug School in Sarojini Nagar

NEW DELHI: The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Friday inaugurated an Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR)-based experiential learning lab at its Navyug School in Sarojini Nagar, aiming to introduce technology-enabled learning for students from Classes six to ten.

According to NDMC, the lab has been equipped with eight VR headsets and digital content covering more than 70 CBSE curricular and co-curricular topics. Students will be able to explore subjects such as artificial intelligence, robotics, quantum computing, space science and nanotechnology through interactive modules.

The facility, named Viksit Bharat Anubhavshala, was inaugurated by NDMC Vice Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal.

Chahal, in a statement, said the lab would make learning more interactive and help students understand emerging technologies through immersive experiences. He said the initiative is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and has been developed in collaboration with edtech firm Homi Lab.

Virtual tours of historical monuments

The civic body said the facility will also allow students to take virtual tours of historical monuments, museums and the solar system, conduct virtual science experiments, visualise mathematical concepts and study topics such as human anatomy and ecosystems using 3D simulations.

Chahal said AI would not only be taught as a subject but would also be integrated into the learning process to make classroom teaching more personalised and engaging.

AI, AR and VR-based experiential learning course

NDMC Director (Education) Kritika Choudhary said the initiative was the first AI, AR and VR-based experiential learning programme introduced in Delhi government schools.

She said the technology-enabled approach was expected to improve students' conceptual understanding, participation and digital skills while encouraging curiosity and critical thinking. The lab will initially cater to students of Classes six to ten at the Navyug School in Sarojini Nagar, officials said.
