NEET UG 2025 question sparks confusion, but NTA already has a rule

NEET UG Result 2025: One question in NEET UG has caused confusion among aspirants, with many flagging ambiguity in the options provided. However, there is no need to panic. The National Testing Agency (NTA) already has a specific rule for such scenarios, especially when questions have multiple correct answers or none.

The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test - Undergraduate (NEET UG 2025) was held on May 4 for around 20 lakh students this year. The NEET UG question paper 2025 had four sets - test booklet code 45, 46, 47, and 48. As per the exam analysis, experts speculate a decline in the NEET UG cut-off 2025 as the exam was rated tough compared to previous years.

The NEET answer key 2025 was issued on June 3. Students will be able to raise objections against the NEET provisional answer key 2025 till today, June 5, on the official website, neet.nta.nic.in. Earlier, the NTA allowed candidates to challenge only the answer key, however, now students will be able to raise objections against questions as well.

The NEET question paper 2025 has 180 compulsory questions carrying a total of 720 marks. Each question has a single correct answer and students are required to choose the best option among the four.

What does the NTA rule say?

Question number 63 of the NEET test booklet 45 has two correct answers. Since there are four sets of question papers, the question number will vary in the remaining three booklets. It corresponds to question number 56 in set 46 and 58 in set 47, and 51 in set 48.

As per a recent report, students and teachers have expressed concerns regarding this question and called it a violation of exam policy. But, that is not the case.

The NTA has announced a clear policy in case multiple answers are found to be correct or questions are ambiguous or incorrect. According to the policy, “If more than one option is found to be correct then Four marks (+4) will be awarded to only those who have marked any of the correct options.”

In case all options are found to be correct, full marks will be awarded to all those who attempted that particular question. And if none of the options is found to be correct, the question will be dropped and four marks will be awarded to all candidates, irrespective of whether they attempted the question or not.

As per the NEET UG tie-breaking rule, if two candidates have the same score after considering all criteria, it will be resolved through a random process with the guidance of an independent expert committee.
