NEW DELHI: The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has temporarily put on hold the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test for Masters of Dental Surgery or NEET MDS 2021 counselling to seek clarification from the Supreme Court regarding the Madras High Court judgement on EWS reservation.

After much delay, the NEET-MDS 2021 counselling started on August 20. The Centre on August 11 told the apex court that it will conduct the counselling for the NEET-MDS admissions from August 20 to October 10, 2021.

On Wednesday, the Madras High Court rejected a plea for more reservation for Tamil Nadu and said that the reservation of AIQ seats for admission to the undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma medical and dental courses across the states must be uniform.

The additional reservation of 10% for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) provided in July 29 notification of Centre for AIQ seats is not permissible without the approval of the Supreme Court, the High Court added.

"In view of the order dated 25.08.2021 of the Hon'ble High Court of Madras, legal opinion is being sought by MCC of DGHS/ MoHFW from the Hon'ble Supreme Court in this matter. Hence, the Round-1 of MDS Counselling 2021 is temporarily being put on hold to seek clarification from Hon'ble Supreme Court in this regard,” MCC stated in a press release.

The NEET-MDS counselling process 2021 will resume only after clarification and approval of the Supreme Court. Candidates are advised to keep checking the official website of the MCC, mcc.nic.in, for all the NEET-MDS 2021 latest updates.

NEET MDS 2021 was conducted last year on December 16, 2020, and the result was announced on December 31, 2020.
