NEW DELHI: The Centre has decided to defer the National Entrance Eligibility Examination for super speciality courses (NEET SS) 2021 scheduled to be held in November to January 2022 to give candidates enough time to prepare according to the NEET SS 2021 new exam pattern.

The decision was taken after 41 postgraduate doctors approached the Supreme Court challenging the abrupt ‘last-minute changes’ in the exam pattern of NEET SS 2021.

According to Live Law, the Centre informed the apex court, “To give the PG doctors more time to prepare in accordance with the revised pattern, the NBE has proposed to defer the exams by two months.”

The NEET SS 2021 exam which was scheduled from November 13-14, has now been decided to be held on January 10-11, the report added.

As per the prevailing NEET SS 2021 exam pattern that has been in existence from 2018, 60% of marks are from the speciality and 40% are from generic feeder courses. However, as per the proposed pattern, the entirety of questions for the critical care super-speciality will be drawn from general medicines.

On September 20, the top court had issued a notice and sought responses to Centre, NBE, and NMC in a writ petition filed by 41 PG qualified doctors challenging abrupt ‘last-minute changes’ in the NEET SS 2021 exam pattern.

Recently, the Supreme Court pulled up the Centre, National Board of Examinations, and National Medical Commission for making changes in exam pattern and asked the Center "not to treat young doctors like a football".

NEET SS 2021 will be conducted for admission to various DM/MCh (Doctorate of Medicine/Magister Chirurgiae) courses.
