NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the NEET UG 2023 exam for over 20 lakh candidates today, May 7. The NEET UG exam was held for a duration of 3 hours 20 minutes from 2 pm to 5:20 pm. NEET 2023 Live Updates

NTA will declare the NEET UG result 2023 at neet.nta.nic.in, however no official dates has been announced yet. The NEET exam is a single national-level undergraduate medical entrance exam held every year for admission to medical, dental, AYUSH, BVSc and AH colleges in India.

After completing Class 12th with a science background, many students aspire to pursue a career in the field of medicine. Here, we discuss some of the medical courses apart from MBBS that students can consider.

  • Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS)

BDS is a popular medical course that focuses on dental health and hygiene. The course duration is typically four years, followed by a one-year internship. Students who complete the course become qualified dentists and can work in hospitals, dental clinics, and private practices.

  • Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)

BAMS is a popular medical course that focuses on traditional Indian medicine. The course duration is typically five and a half years, and it covers subjects such as anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and pathology. Upon completion, students become qualified Ayurvedic doctors and can work in hospitals, clinics, or start their own practice.

  • Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS)

BHMS is a medical course that focuses on homoeopathy that treats patients based on their individual symptoms and needs. The course duration is typically five and a half years, and it covers subjects such as anatomy, physiology, and pathology. Upon completion, students become qualified homoeopathic doctors,

  • Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS)

BUMS is a five and a half years undergraduate AYUSH course focused on Unani methods of medical treatment. The course includes a mandatory one-year internship. To be eligible for admission into the BUMS course, candidates need to have scored a minimum of 50% marks in their class 12 examination and qualify for the NEET entrance exam. The NEET cutoff for BUMS courses is the same as that for BHMS and BAMS courses, i.e., 50th percentile for unreserved category students and 40th percentile for reserved category candidates.

  • Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery (BSMS)

BSMS is an undergraduate AYUSH course that also spans five and a half years. Graduates of the course are employed as doctors who specialize in Siddha medicine and surgery. Admission to BSMS programs is based on NEET UG scores. To be eligible for BSMS programmes, candidates must also have secured at least 50% marks in their Class 12 exams.

  • Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm)

B.Pharm is a medical course that focuses on pharmaceuticals, including the study of drugs and their effects on the human body. The course duration is typically four years, and it covers subjects such as pharmacology, pharmaceutical chemistry, and pharmacognosy.

  • Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT)

BPT is a medical course that focuses on physical therapy and rehabilitation. The course duration is typically four and a half years, and it covers subjects such as anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology. Admission to BPT courses is on the basis of entrance tests. While some colleges accept NEET UG scores, most of the institutes conduct their own entrance tests.

  • Bachelor in Veterinary Science (BVSc)

B.V.Sc is a specialized medical course that focuses on the study of veterinary medicine. This course spans a duration of 5.5 years and prepares students for the diagnosis and treatment of animals. Upon completion of the B.V.Sc course, students become veterinary doctors. Apart from the NEET, many state-level entrance tests such as RPVT, KEAM, KCET and WBJEE are also conducted for admission to state BVSc seats.

BOT is a medical course that focuses on occupational therapy, which involves helping people recover from injuries or disabilities by teaching them skills that improve their ability to perform daily activities.
