NIRF Ranking 2024 (OUT) LIVE: India rankings released, 3 new categories added; IIT Madras tops once again

Replacing a top Delhi University college, Miranda House, another top DU institute Hindu College emerged as the best college in the country in the NIRF rankings 2024. The college, located in the north campus of DU, offers 19 undergraduate and 14 postgraduate programmes.

In the overall category of the NIRF rankings 2024, engineering institutes dominate the list. Seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have secured spots in the list of 10 best overall institutions in India which also includes Indian Institute of Science (IISc), AIIMS Delhi, and JNU.

The newest IIM, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai has been placed at the sixth position in the NIRF ranking management 2024. The National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) was converted into the IIM in August last year.

Pune's Symbiosis Skills and Professional University is the best skill university in India. The education ministry introduced the new 'skill universities' category this year wherein three universities have been given ranks. Shri Vishwakarma Skill University, Palwal has secured the second position while Bhartiya Skill Development University, Jaipur has been placed at the third spot. 

In the newly introduced open universities category in the NIRF rankings, three institutions have been ranked. While Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is the best open university in India, Netaji Subhash Open University, Kolkata has grabbed the second position. Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University, Ahmedabad came third. 

While the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is the best engineering institute, IIT Roorkee has snapped the first rank in the architecture and planning category this year.

In one of the new categories announced this year for the NIRF rankings, state public universities, Anna University has grabbed the first rank followed by Jadavpur University. Savitribai Phule Pune University is among the top 3 state public universities.

This year, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta moved to the fifth position in the management ranking in the NIRF rankings 2024 while IIT Delhi replaced it to move to the 4th spot.

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru has again clinched the first position in the law category of the NIRF rankings 2024 released today, August 12. The top law institutes in India are as follows:

IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, and IIT Bombay have retained their positions in the engineering category of the 9th NIRF rankings 2024.

The education ministry has announced the NIRF Rankings 2024. While IIT Madras has secured the top spot in the NIRF rankings 2024 overall, the 10 best institutions in the category are as follows:

IIT Madras is again the best engineering institute in the ninth edition of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings 2024. 

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru has also retained the top position in the NIRF rankings 2024 for the universities category. 

For yet another year, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has ranked first in the overall category of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings 2024.

The Ministry of Education is also helping the institutions of the neighbouring countries to participate in the NIRF rankings 2024, said K Sanjay Murthy. 

While addressing the NIRF 2024 award ceremony, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) chairman Anil Sahasrabuddhe said that they are planning to introduce sustainability rankings from the next year. A preference is being given to zero carbon footprint, in which, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, has taken a lead. 

Besides introducing three new categories in the NIRF rankings, the education ministry has also made changes to the parameters used for determining the ranks of the institutes. The new parameters include sustainable development goals and indicators of National Education Policy (NEP) which includes Indian Knowledge System, adoption of regional languages and multiple entry and exit points

A total of 10,885 institutions across India applied for the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings 2024 this year. Every year, the higher education institutions are invited to participate in the domestic rankings by registering on the official website.

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Surathkal will be ranked in the ninth edition of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings 2024. During an interview with Careers360, responding to the drop in position in the rankings, the institute director said that the NIT still ranks higher than many new Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). In his view, ranking has become a race to increase the numbers, such as publishing of papers and number of patents. While these factors are important for the new institutes to attract the students, encourage the faculty, and improve placements, the well-established IITs and NITs "should focus on the quality of their output against global benchmarks as well as local socio-economic impact," he said.

Based on NIRF rankings for the medical category last year, the top medical colleges in Delhi are as follows:

In the last year's NIRF rankings for the management category, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, and IIM Kozhikode made their way to the top three management institutes in India. IIM Kozhikode replaced IIM Calcutta to mark the third spot.

Given the history of the NIRF rankings, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is expected to rank first in the engineering category of NIRF ranking 2024 yet again.  

Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan will announce this year's National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings 2024. The announcement will be made during a virtual event in Delhi.

Amity University, Gautam Budh Nagar, UP was ranked 35 in the NIRF ranking last year and Amity University Haryana, Gurgaon grabbed rank 94 with a score of 43.35.

In half hour, the Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan will release the India Rankings 2024 for higher education institutes and award the top-ranking institutes.

The National Board of Accreditation (NBA) continues to be the ranking agency on behalf of NIRF. “NIRF, by itself or with the help of other suitably identified partner agencies will also undertake authentication of data, wherever felt necessary, and where feasible. It will extract the relevant information from this data and through software, compute the various metrics and rank institutions based on this data,” the official website read. The NBA was established by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) under section 10(u) of AICTE Act, in the year 1994.

The Union ministry of education will  announce the top universities for 13 categories - overall, university, colleges, engineering, management, pharmacy, law, medical, architecture, dental, innovation, agriculture and allied sectors, and research institutions - at 3 pm.  

Calcutta University’s ranking dropped significantly last year. Although the ranking rose in the university category, it dropped to rank 12 the previous year.

NIRF Rankings 2024 | NIT Tiruchirappalli has maintained its position at rank 21 for the past two years in the NIRF ranking. The overall NIRF India ranking of NIT Karnataka, which was 32 and 27 in the previous years, dropped to 38 last year. NIT Calicut grabbed rank 54 and entered in the top 100 best institutes in India.

The NIRF rankings 2024 will be uploaded in PDF format on the official website, nirfindia.org. The NIRF ranking 2024 PDF will contain details of the institute and the score obtained in each category, sanctioned number of seats, placement and higher studies, financial resources, project details and more. 

Five out of the top 10 colleges in India are affiliated to Delhi University, according to last year’s MoE NIRF rankings. Miranda House has retained its top position last year as well, however, the ranking of Lady Shri Ram College for Women, one of the most sought after DU colleges, dropped last year to rank 10.

Sharda University grabbed NIRF rank 87 last year with a 44.11 score. Last year, out of around 40,000 institutions in the country, 8,686 were evaluated, based on which the top 100 institutions in each category were announced.

All institutions have to mandatorily host the data submitted for India Rankings 2023 for a period of three years on their official website. Institutions who fail to post the data submitted to NIRF on their official websites, or those who do not have websites of their own, will be given initial notice and afterwards an appropriate action will be taken.

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) was ranked number 5 in NIRF rankings 2023. The BHU was ranked 7 in 2016 and later improved to rank 3 in 2021. However, the NIRF ranking dropped by 2 places last year. Take a look at the NIRF score obtained by the BHU in the last three years.

The ministry of education will also announce discipline specific rank for highly-focused institutions with a single main discipline such as engineering, medical, law, management, pharmacy or UG degree colleges in arts, science, and commerce, etc. with less than 1,000 enrolled students, as calculated on the basis of approved intake.

This year, all candidate institutions, independent of their discipline or nature (comprehensive or otherwise) will be given a common overall rank. The institutions that satisfy one of the following criteria will be considered for a common overall ranking. “The parameters have been chosen in such a manner that these are equally relevant for various kinds of educational institutions,” the ministry said. 

They have a total of at least 1,000 enrolled students, calculated on the basis of approved intake, OR

The institution is a centrally funded institution/university of the Government of India.

While the NIRF engineering ranking of Jadavpur university improved from rank 17 to rank 10 in two years, the overall NIRF ranking slipped one rank from 12 to 13 in 2023. 

The SRM Institute of Science and Technology or SRM University NIRF ranking improved in the last three years. The university was ranked 53, 36, and 32 under the overall category in the academic year 2021, 2022, 2023 respectively.

Here’s the top 5 colleges in India, as per the previous year’s NIRF rankings.

Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (IIEST), a public technological university located at Shibpur, Howrah, West Bengal, was ranked 35 in last year’s NIRF rankings.

Delhi University’s Miranda House has been maintaining NIRF rank 1 under the college category. The NIRF score, however, saw a dip over the years.

Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru retained its position as the best university in India since the inception of NIRF rankings. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) bagged the second and third place in NIRF 2023 respectively. It was the third time in a row that JMI secured third position in NIRF University rankings. Last year, IISc Bangalore NIRF rankings in overall category was rank 2 with a score of 83.09.

The education ministry will announce the NIRF ranking 2024 for engineering colleges today along with the other 12 categories. Meanwhile, take a look at the top 10 engineering colleges in India, as per the previous year’s NIRF rankings. 

Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has been ranked number 1 in the NIRF rankings last year. Since the inception of NIRF in 2016, IIT Madras has retained its first position in the India rankings 2024.

NIRF rankings 2024 was launched on September 29, 2015. The first India ranking was announced on April 4, 2016. 

National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) outlines a methodology to rank higher educational institutions across the country. The ranking parameters and methodology was framed as per the recommendations made by a core committee set up by the education ministry in 2015.

The ministry of education will publish the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF 2024)  today at 3 pm. The top universities and colleges under the NIRF India rankings 2024  will be released on the official website, nirfindia.org. 

NIRF ranking 2024 for universities category will be announced tomorrow, August 12. While the ministry of education will announce the overall rankings of the institutes which score the best in the category, the list will include a mix of state, private, deemed, central universities as well as other institutes. With a score of 63.74, the Indian Institute of Technology-Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU) slipped to the 15th position in the NIRF rankings for the engineering category. The last three years' ranking of the IIT are as follows:

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings, the domestic rankings of institutions across India, help determine what might be the best college for a particular field such as agriculture. As per the last year's NIRF ranking for agriculture and allied sectors category, the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) is the best agriculture institute in India.
ICAR - National Dairy Research Institute and Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana are among the top 3 agriculture colleges in India. 

Without a doubt, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Tiruchirappalli, known as NIT Trichy amongst the youngsters, is the best NIT in India for engineering degrees. The institute ranked 23 in the NIRF engineering college ranking last year. The new NITs, one in Meghalaya and another in Manipur, performed better than the preceding year rankings as they managed to feature in the top 100.

Saveetha Engineering College has submitted data for the NIRF ranking 2024 for the engineering and innovation categories. According to the data, the college, affiliated to the Anna University, had 1,260 undergraduate seats and 144 postgraduate. The student strength is over 4,000 for UG and 160 for PG. 852 students graduated last year of which 824 were placed while 21 went for higher studies.  

The research institutions category, added to the categories under NIRF ranking in the recent years, found the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) as the top research institute in India. Among the best ones are seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), AIIMS Delhi, VIT Vellore, and top central universities. NIRF ranking 2024 for research will be announced tomorrow along with the other disciplines. 

One of the top central universities in India, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) secured the 5th position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking last year in the university category. The Varanasi-based university grabbed the 8th spot in NIRF rankings for medical colleges. It also ranked 11th in the overall category and 16th among the top research institutions. The university was placed on the 56th position in the NIRF management rankings. In the dental category of the India rankings, BHU was 18th in the list. Moreover, the university also ranked in the law, engineering, and agriculture categories in the previous year's rankings of the higher education institutes across India.

According to the NIRF dental college ranking last year, the top 10 BDS colleges in India are given below.

West Bengal's Jadavpur University retained the fourth position in the NIRF rankings for the university category last year. The university lost one rank while moving to the fourth spot. Notably, the state-run university was the only institute in India to feature in QS Sustainability World Rankings last years. 

Based on the last year's NIRF rankings, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi is the best medical college in India followed by PGIMER Chandigarh. NIRF ranking 2024 for medical category will be announced tomorrow, August 12. Meanwhile, students can check the top 10 medical colleges so far and their ranks below.

As per the NIRF rankings last year, the top 10 law colleges in India are as follows: 

The Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur ranked 66th in the overall category of NIRF ranking last year. The engineering college located in West Bengal is one of the oldest institutes. Launched in 1856 as a civil engineering college, IIEST was initially called with the names, Bengal Engineering College, Bengal Engineering and Science University (BESU). It became a centrally-funded institute in the year 2014. The institute is still grappling with the issues of vacant faculty positions, seats, poor infrastructure, among others. 

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad has been the top management institute in India for years. The institute ranked first in the NIRF management ranking last year too. The NIRF ranking 2024, scheduled to be announced tomorrow, will raise the curtain of the best b-schools across the country. IIM Bangalore retained the second best spot last year while IIM Kozhikode replaced IIM Calcutta to become the third best management college.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi is the best medical institute in India, as per the NIRF rankings. The institute has been ranking first in the medical category for many years. The AIIMS in the national capital might secure the top spot in the NIRF medical college ranking 2024.

The human resource development ministry approved and launched the NIRF rankings in September 2015. The first-ever India rankings were released in 2016 based on a framework to rank academic institutions across the country. Under the rankings, institutes are asked to apply and submit data based on which they are given a Common Overall Rank and discipline-wise ranking.  

According to the eligibility criteria, those having at least 1,000 students or centrally-funded institutions or universities will be eligible for a rank. 

As per the last NIRF rankings, Delhi University's Miranda House college is the best college in India. The institute scored 74.81 and grabbed rank 1 in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) college ranking announced last year. 

For the past several years, the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) Bangalore has been ranking as the top university in India in the NIRF ranking. IISc has, notably, ranked best Indian institute in the international rankings. IISc is a research institute offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programmes in science, engineering, and other fields. Established in 1909, the institute has over 42 departments and around 4,000 students are pursuing degrees.

In NIRF rankings 2024, the institutes across India will be ranked in 13 different categories – overall, engineering, colleges, universities, medical, dental, law, management, research institutions, pharmacy, architecture and planning, agriculture and allied sectors, and innovation.

The Ministry of Education will announce the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking 2024 tomorrow, August 12. Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan will announce the NIRF 2024 rankings at 2:30 pm during a virtual event at Delhi’s Shastri Bhawan. Under the rankings, India’s higher education institutions will be given rankings on the basis of their scores.
