NEW DELHI: The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) Bengaluru, retains its top position among law schools in India as per the National Institutional Ranking Framework 2024, released on Monday. In fact, little has changed at the top in the NIRF ranking 2024 for law as the National Law University (NLU) Delhi, Nalsar University of Law Hyderabad, and the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS) Kolkata continue to occupy the second, third and fourth positions, respectively.

At fifth position, Symbiosis Law School Pune replaces Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) Delhi.

The colleges and universities were ranked based on predefined parameters that included research output and institutional perception.

Symbiosis Law School, Pune

This is the ninth edition of NIRF ranking which includes 15 categories. Apart from overall, universities, colleges, medicine, engineering, research, law among others were ranked. This year three new categories have been introduced. They are: open universities, skill universities and state-funded public universities. From next year, there will be a separate ranking on sustainability as well.

“We will introduce sustainability ranking from the next NIRF ranking 2025. A committee has been formed and IIT Madras is working on it,” said Anil Sahasrabuddhe, chairman, the National Board of Accreditation.

NIRF was launched in 2015, This year 10,885 institutions applied for the NIRF from around 300 institutions in 2016, the year after it was launched.
