NEW DELHI: National Institute of Technology (NIT) Andhra Pradesh is set to establish a Common Research and Technology Development Hub (CRTDH) in the renewable energy sector with the objective of bettering the productivity of micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in India through technology.

The NIT Andhra Pradesh research centre aims to facilitate testing of innovative products and new technologies. It is sponsored by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), under the ministry of science and technology, with a funding of Rs 5 crore. The rest will be contributed by the NIT itself.

“CRTDH will provide technological solutions to the MSEs’ in the renewable energy sector”, read the press release.

“This centre will close the gap between academia and industries and will strengthen the relationship for mutual benefits”, claimed CSP Rao, director of NIT Andhra Pradesh.

NIT Andhra Pradesh had recently established a new 174-acre campus, for BTech students. The latest campus of NIT is constructed adjacent to the Chennai-Kolkata Highway (NH-16) in Tadepalligudem, West Godavari district. An amount of Rs 438 crore has been spent on the construction. Each building has been named after eminent personalities.

The NIT AP has also formed a “regional education cluster group” to promote research and development programmes along with a group of state-run universities in the neighbourhood. They will be working on mentorship and cooperation, joint research, student and faculty exchange programmes, joint academic programmes.
