NLSIU Bangalore to hold entrance exam for BA (Hons) admission; must score more than ‘0 marks’

NEW DELHI: National Law School of India University Bengaluru (NLSIU Bangalore) has announced that the admission to new 3-year BA (Hons) programme will be done through an all-India written admissions test, NLSAT-BA 2025. Candidates applying for the course will get a chance to opt for an additional 4th year.

The NLSIU Bangalore announced the classes for the new cohort will commence on July 1. The programme was developed by the faculty teams from August 2023 and it got the approval from the concerned governing bodies in 2024.

Candidates who have completed Class 12 and graduated from a recognised university with 55% aggregate marks for general and 45% for SC, ST will be eligible to apply for admission.

For the first cohort 2025-26, the maximum intake for the NLS BA (Hons) is 60. “5% of the total intake shall be reserved horizontally for Persons with Disabilities (PWD); 30% of the total intake shall be reserved horizontally for women, and 25% of the total intake shall be reserved horizontally (compartmentalised) for Karnataka Students,” the university said.

NLSAT-BA 2025: Exam pattern

The NLSAT-BA will be conducted on April 27, 2025 for a duration of 2 and half hours, from 10 am to 12.30 pm. Based on the students’ performance, the university will publish the final admission list by the end of May 2025.

The NLSAT-BA 2025 entrance exam will consist of two parts. Part A will have multiple-choice questions (MCQs) in reading and comprehension, reasoning, and quantitative analysis carrying 75 marks. Part B, on the other hand, will consist of subjective questions carrying a maximum of 75 marks.

NLSIU Bangalore: Selection process for BA (Hons)

The NLSIU Bangalore will issue a rank list based on the scores obtained in part A. Only those candidates who have obtained more than zero marks in part A will be eligible for the next round.

“From amongst these eligible candidates, Part B of the NLSAT-BA answer scripts will be evaluated in a ratio of 1:5 based on performance in Part A. That is, five candidates per seat available will qualify for evaluation of Part B of the examination,” it said.

A fresh and final rank list will be published on the basis of cumulative performance in both part A and B. To be eligible for admission, candidates should fulfil the following two criteria.

  • Should have scored more than "zero marks' in both part A and part B.
  • The cumulative score for general and EWS category candidates should be above 75th percentile of the eligible candidates and for SC, ST, OBC-NCL or PwD, the score should be above 40th percentile.
