NMC approves additional MBBS seats: Andhra Pradesh gets 175, Goa and Tamil Nadu 50 each

NMC has approved an additional 100 MBBS seats at Andhra Pradesh's Piduguralla Government Medical College and 75 at Siddhartha Government Medical College in Vijayawada.
In a major step towards creating more opportunities for medical aspirants, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved an additional total of 275 MBBS seats at various medical colleges across Andhra Pradesh, Goa, and Tamil Nadu, as per various sources.
Among the total count, the NMC has added 175 MBBS seats in two government medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh, including 100 for Piduguralla Government Medical College and 75 for Siddhartha Government Medical College in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Satya Kumar Yadav said in a PTI report.
Moreover, this also includes approval of 50 MBBS seats at Goa Medical College (GMC), chief minister Pramod Sawant said in another PTI report.
NMC approves additional MBBS seats at govt medical colleges
Similarly, the commission has also added 50 MBBS seats at two government medical colleges in Tamil Nadu, increasing the total seat count across the state’s 36 govt medical colleges to 5,150, TOI reported.
Recently, NMC allocated 75 and 25 MBBS seats each at Kadapa and Nellore government medical colleges, respectively for the academic year 2026-27, the PTI report read.
The addition of MBBS seats at Goa Medical College has taken the annual intake from 200 to 250 students from the academic years 2026-27, CM Sawant said in the report.
Stating the approval as a major boost to medical education in the state, CM Sawant said: "The National Medical Commission has approved an increase of 50 MBBS seats at Goa Medical College, raising the total intake from 200 to 250 seats from the academic year 2026-27. The expansion will further strengthen Goa's medical education ecosystem and augment the state's healthcare human resources.”
According to the report, Goa Medical College, currently provides admission to 200 MBBS students annually. With the NMC approval, the medical college will admit 250 students from the current academic year.
