NEW DELHI: The anti-ragging cell in National Medical Commission (NMC) has constituted a National Task Force on mental health and well-being of medical students. The task Force has decided to hold a meeting to hear issues from students association, students studying in medical colleges in India and their parents.
The meeting details will be announced through the official website of the commission, nmc.org.in. The meeting is scheduled to be conducted tentatively from May 27, 2024 onwards.
"Task Force has decided to hold a meeting to hear stakeholders namely Students Association, Students studying in Medical colleges in India or parents of the students", NMC official notice read.
"All the stakeholders are requested to submit their interest by 25th May 2024 through Google Form given below for participating in the meeting which may be held in physical/virtual/hybrid", the notice added.
Task Force aims to tackle issues related to depression and suicide
To tackle issues related to depression and suicide among medical students, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has established a national task force to investigate the contributing factors and recommend evidence-based strategies for enhancing mental health.
As specified in the terms and references, the task force will review current data on the mental health and suicide of medical students, analyse the contributing factors, and propose evidence-based strategies to enhance mental health and suicide prevention.
The committee will also visit the colleges where incidents of suicides have been reported. Additionally, the task force intends to submit a detailed report outlining its primary findings and offering practical recommendations to enhance mental health support for medical students by May 31, 2024. Progress updates will be consistently shared with the anti-ragging cell. The task force is dedicated to holding regular meetings, whether online or in person, to accomplish its objectives.
