NMMSS Scholarship 2026: Students must have secured at least 55 per cent marks or equivalent grade in Class 7, with a 5-percentage point relaxation for SC, ST students to be eligible for the grant.
The ministry of education has extended the NMMSS Scholarship 2026 application deadline to October 31. Eligible students can have additional time to complete their National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) at scholarships.gov.in.
For appearing in the selection test, students must have secured at least 55 per cent marks or equivalent grade in Class 7, with a 5-percentage point relaxation for SC, ST students. The parental income of the applicant should not exceed Rs 3.50 lakh per annum.
Eligible students will receive a scholarship of Rs 12,000 per annum, according to the official notification. Those who have already submitted their applications, should ensure that their applications are verified by the Institute Nodal Officer by November 15 and the District Nodal Officer by November 30.
NMMSS Scholarship 2026: Eligibility
The NMMSS applications for the academic year 2026-27 began on June 1. Students should have to complete their One-Time Registration (OTR) on the portal before applying for the scholarship.
As per the official notice, until September 30, a total of 88,522 fresh applications and 1,97,133 renewal applications have been submitted.
NMMSS is aimed at supporting meritorious students from economically weaker sections and encouraging them to continue their education beyond Class 8 up to Class 12.
The scheme provides one lakh fresh scholarships every year to eligible Class 9 students who qualify in the selection examination conducted by the respective State, UT governments.
The scholarship is subsequently continued from Classes 10 to 12 through renewal, subject to the prescribed academic requirements.
Students studying in state government, government-aided and local body schools, will receive Rs 12,000 per annum, which is transferred directly to their bank accounts through DBT.
