No hike in Assam HSLC exam fee 2024, clarifies education minister Ranoj Pegu

NEW DELHI: There is no hike in High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) or Class 10 examination fee under the Assam board, Assam school and higher education minister Ranoj Pegu clarified on social media. The minister debunked the claims of fee hike allegedly by a section of the media as “false and baseless”.

Pegu stated that the exam fee structure for Class 10 under the Secondary Education Board of Assam is the same as last year wherein the total fee is Rs 1,200 including SEBA fee of Rs 700 and practical fee of Rs 150. Moreover, the students belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL) category are exempted from fee payment, the minister informed.

“There is no hike in the examination fee of HSLC examination under SEBA. The fee structure is as it was in the last year. SEBA fee - ₹700, Centre fee - ₹350 and practical exam fee - ₹150; total 1200/-. All BPL students are exempted from paying this fee. The news circulated in a section of media is false and baseless,” Pegu said in a post on X tagging state chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and school education department.

Recently, the board issued the fee structure for Class 10 board exams 2024. According to the fee structure, besides exam and practical fee, students will have to pay Rs 350 as centre fee whereas there is an annual recognition fee which is to be paid by the head of the institution.

“..the payment of fee is exempted for the candidates of government/provincialised and recognized venture schools whose parental income from all sources is 2 lakh or below, only for the candidates, who have registered in Class 9, in the year 2021 and 2022,” the notification read.

The online registration for HSLC board exams will begin from October 9. The last date to fill the application form is October 31. SEBA also issued instructions to schools for the exam fee payment.
