No Seat Takers in 176 Engineering & Management Colleges in UP

NEW DELHI, July 25: With the closing of third round of seat allotment being conducted by Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), shocking media reports have come to light claiming that there were no takers for a whopping 176 participating institutes in the state.

The result for round 3 of seat allotment for UPSEE counselling which is the state admission process was announced on July 17, 2018 for which candidates had to confirm their allotted seats till July 19.

The report also brings to notice other shocking statistics like out of the 176 institutes which has no students, 14 are in Lucknow. Further some government colleges have just 1 allotment each.

The situation turns worse with the private institutes where 305 colleges had anything from 1 to 50 seats allotted; 39 colleges where 51 to 100 seats were allotted and 39 colleges where around 101 to 500 seats were allotted.

Allotments above 500 are only in 17 colleges.

The big question that arises looking at these figures is that why do 176 colleges not have even one taker? When one looks at the other figures, the situation is only slightly better.

What may the reasons for this drastic situation? Bad faculty, inferior infrastructure, poor placement records – can these be attributed as causes?

Whatever, the case maybe, this situation brings to fore what experts in industry have been bemoaning – the lack of quality education in engineering colleges. This also sort of proves AICTE right in its step to close down non-performing institutes.
