NTA to strengthen testing centre network; AICTE seeks infrastructure details from HEIs

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has asked government technical universities and higher education institutions to submit information regarding IT infrastructure and vacant or unutilised space for assessment of the National Testing Agency (NTA) suitability for development of Standard Testing Centres (STCs).

The direction comes from the NTA, requesting AICTE to initiate the collection of information on computing infrastructure and available space in government institutions across the country.

“NTA conducts various national level examinations in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. With the progressive migration of examinations to CBT mode and the requirement for a wider geographically distributed network of testing centres, NTA is assessing the availability of suitable infrastructure in Government institutions across the country,” according to an official statement.

NTA seeks vacant space details from AICTE-approved HEIs to set up CBT centres

The council has requested engineering colleges, government polytechnics, university departments and other eligible management institutions to put the requisite information regarding their available infrastructure in the prescribed Proforma at Annexure-I, the announcement read.

The information requirement includes details regarding the number of functional computers or computer systems available, existing IT infrastructure and systems, networking and internet connectivity, availability of power backup, availability of CCTV and allied facilities, and vacant space that may potentially be considered for creation of dedicated CBT infrastructure.

“The information is required only in respect of Government colleges/institutions approved by AICTE. Institutions are requested to ensure that the information furnished is accurate, complete and duly verified by the competent authority of the Institution,” the statement said.

The council also stated that the details should be submitted by September 15 and once the information is received, it will be shared with the NTA for further assessment and necessary action.

In addition, the AICTE has requested the colleges to treat the matter as important and time-bound and ensure submission of the requisite information within the prescribed timeline.
