Over 500 students from India and abroad participates in MUN at Amity

NEW DELHI, NOVEMBER 15: The three-day Model United Nations (MUN) conference, a hotbed for learning and understanding diplomacy, international relations, working of United Nations Organizations, debate around issues confronting world leaders and draft resolutions to enable the UN to tackle these issues, started at Amity University Noida Campus.

Amity International Model United Nations 2018 (AIMUN-2018), a simulation of the UN is organized by Amity Education Resource Centre along with Amity International Schools. MUN involves and teaches research, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities, and acts as a platform to familiarize students with pressing global issues and workings of the United Nations Organization.

Over 500 students and teachers from 13 different countries viz. USA, Russia, Japan, Canada, Germany, Spain, Italy, Hungary, Slovakia, Belgium, Indonesia, Thailand and India have participated in AIMUN 2018.

This year, there is a simulation of 8 committees with different agendas including General Assembly-Disec: Agenda- Strategies for rebuilding critical institutions in post-conflict societies; Historical Security Council 1956: Agenda- Suez Canal crisis; UN Security Council: Agenda- Situation in Korean Peninsula; European Union: Agenda- Refugees Crisis in Europe; World Trade Organization: Agenda- Addressing protectionist policy concerns in 21st century; The Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ): Agenda - Eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions through promoting & expanding opportunities and related challenges; All India Political Parties Meet: Agenda- Amendments to Citizenship Act (NRC issue) and Finance commission constitution and BJP-RSS Meet: Agenda – Manifesto for 2019 National Election.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Karoly Sardi, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Hungary said that such events are of high significance. He emphasized on the importance to discuss global issues by conducting meaningful dialogues and advised students to learn foreign languages as global interaction and culture understanding is the main step towards peace. He called upon the students to expand their horizons, share their views and to be constructive as they are the future of the world and every country will be the same as they make it.

Dr Amita Chauhan, Chairperson, Amity International Schools said that for 10 years AIMUN has edified students from all over the world and empowered them with both economic and political information and policies of the various countries.
