PM Modi to attend SRCC centenary celebrations tomorrow; AAP student wing plans protest

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the centenary celebrations of Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) tomorrow, September 5 at 7 pm. Ahead of the PM visit, the Aam Aadmi Party’s student wing, Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP), has announced a protest at the college from 10 am on the same day, according to a report by Times Now.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to participate in the centenary event and address the gathering. The visit will take place on Teachers’ Day, which is observed every year on September 5 to mark the birth anniversary of former President Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

According to the official release cited by Times Now, the coincidence of SRCC’s centenary celebrations with Teachers’ Day makes the occasion significant as the country honours the contribution of teachers and educators.

ASAP announces protest at SRCC

ASAP, the AAP student wing, plans to stage a demonstration at SRCC at 10 am tomorrow, September 5, ahead of PM Modi’s, as per TN report.

The student organisation said the protest will raise questions about the police action during protests at Jantar Mantar. According to the report, ASAP volunteers plan to ask, “Why were students lathi charged on July 20 for ‘peaceful protest?".

The protest is scheduled several hours before the prime minister's arrival at the college.

PM Modi SRCC visit schedule

PM Modi is expected to reach SRCC at 7 pm and address the centenary gathering. The detailed schedule of his visit and any interaction with students had not been released at the time of the Times Now report.

SRCC, a constituent college of the University of Delhi, is completing 100 years. The institution was established in 1926 by industrialist and philanthropist Sir Shri Ram and is known for its programmes and academic work in Commerce, Economics and Management.

The centenary celebrations are being held alongside Teachers’ Day, which commemorates Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, India’s first Vice President and second President.
