NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate seven new autonomous medical colleges simultaneously across Uttar Pradesh on October 25, reported India Today.

According to the report, the prime minister will inaugurate the medical colleges from Siddharthnagar in eastern UP.

‘One District, One Medical College’ scheme is conceptualized by chief minister Yogi Adityanath's which aims to improve health services in UP after the disastrous second wave of Covid in the state. The UP government aims to establish medical colleges in all 75 districts of the state under the scheme.

The chief minister had earlier inspected the newly built Madhav Prasad Tripathi State Autonomous Medical College in Siddharthnagar. The medical college in Siddharthnagar has appointed the faculties and the admissions for the first session of an MBBS course will start from next year. “Through the Siddharthnagar Medical College, people of not only Siddharthnagar but districts like Balrampur, Maharajganj and even neighbouring districts in Nepal will get the best medical facilities,” India Today quoted chief minister Yogi.

The other medical colleges to be inaugurated on October 25 are at Deoria, Etah, Hardoi, Ghazipur, Mirzapur and Pratapgarh. The medical colleges have already got recognition from the National Medical Council, and the admission process will begin for 100 MBBS seats each through NEET from this session. After these medical colleges start functioning, UP will have an additional 700 MBBS seats, and the state’s total seat strength will be 3,628.

As per the report the UP government has also identified 16 districts where no government or private medical college is present. Medical colleges will be constructed here on a PPP model, and a provision of Rs 200 crore has been made for this in this year's budget.
