Prime minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate IIT Jodhpur on October 5

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Jodhpur) on October 5. IIT Jodhpur was established in 2008, along with seven other IITs. The new campus is spread over 852 acres on Jodhpur-Nagaur Highway.

The institute is involved in several research and innovation projects supported by various government agencies such as department of science and technology (DST), Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), department of atomic energy, ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY), department of biotechnology (DBT), ministry of ayush and office of principal scientific advisor.

The IIT Jodhpur said some of the research initiatives under progress at IIT Jodhpur are technology innovation hub on computer vision, augmented reality and virtual reality; Jodhpur City Knowledge and Innovation Foundation; Centre for Advanced Security Technology Development in Cyber Physical Systems; Centre of Excellence on Ayurtech; Bio-design Centre supported; bio-nest and DRDO-Industry-Academia Centre of Excellence.

The institute added that its academic curriculum aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It offers various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in emerging fields such as clean energy, artificial intelligence, bio-engineering and others.

IIT, AIIMS Jodhpur has partnered

The institute has also partnered with AIIMS Jodhpur for offering unique innovation driven joint degree programs in medical technologies. The institute has also a mandated social connect programme that connects students and faculty to work on scientific projects benefiting rural and surrounding areas.

The Institute fosters innovation and entrepreneurship skills with structured support through an incubation program, it added.

The students also can also engage in advanced research in interdisciplinary areas such as digital humanities, computational social science, quantum information and computation, space science and technology, and robotics and mobility.

“Over the past 15 years, IIT Jodhpur has distinguished itself with its multi-disciplinary and innovation-oriented curriculum and strong research programmes,” IIT Jodhpur said.
