Professor GS Bajpai appointed new vice-chancellor of NLU Delhi

GS Bajpai previously served as the registrar, professor, chair professor, and chairperson at National Law University, Delhi.

NEW DELHI: The National Law University (NLU) Delhi announced that Professor G S Bajpai has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor. He assumed charge from February 28, 2023. Bajpai previously served as the registrar, professor of criminology and criminal justice (law), chair professor at KL Arora chair in criminal law; and chairperson of the Centre for Criminology and Victimology at the university.

Bajpai holds a master’s specialisation in criminology and criminal justice, doctorate in victimology and a post-doctorate in criminal justice from Leicester University, UK, and was a Commonwealth Fellow at the department of criminology at the university.

Before serving at NLU Delhi, Bajpai served as professor (law and development) and chairperson at the Centre for Criminal Justice Administration, NLU Bhopal. He has also held positions at the Indian Institute of Public Administration (1989), Bureau of Police Research and Development (1989- 1995), Punjab Police Academy, Punjab and Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, University of Saugar, MP. Under his guidance, as many as 12 students have already completed doctoral dissertations.

The professor is also a member of the committee for conferring statutory status to the 'Right to Repair'; state higher education council, Punjab; advisory board for development of legal education and legal profession of the Bar Council of India; standing committee of the legal education committee of the BCI; general council, Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University, Visakhapatnam; Punjab State Legal Services Authority and State Legal Services Authority, UT, Chandigarh; Board of Indian Association of Social Science Institutions (IASSI); expert committee of the UGC to frame guidelines for introduction of course on law for holistic and multidisciplinary education and a convenor of the committee for reforms in criminal laws.

Professor Bajpai has been designated as a distinguished visiting professor at the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata. He has authored 22 books or monographs; over 50 papers; more than 90 op-eds in leading dailies like Indian Express, the Hindu, the Tribune and thirteen project reports etc. GS Bajpai is the editor of two prestigious international journals – Journal of Victimology and Victim Justice and Indian Journal of Criminology.
