PSEB to charge fee from students for hard copy of board results: Report

NEW DELHI: The Punjab State Education Board (PSEB) will charge a fee from students for providing hard copies of results, as per a Hindustan Times report.

Government and private school students will have to pay fees for getting a hard copy of their passing certificate from school. While students of Class 8 will have to pay Rs 100, those of Classes 10,12 will be charged with Rs 300 for getting the hard copies of their board exam results, as per the report.

It is necessary for the students to get admission into further classes, the report said.

According to the report, an official said: “School representatives used to collect the certificates from the board office here, which were given to the students for free. Now, the board won’t send hard copies to Punjabi Bhawan, but the results will be uploaded online and the school in-charges will provide the hard copy to the students after charging the decided fee.”

A government senior secondary school teacher said that several parents are hesitant to pay the fees and it is ethically wrong to take out fees from students of Class 8 under Right to Education, the report said.

“There are many parents who are unable to pay the admission fees and registration charges at the moment due to poor financial conditions amid the pandemic. Now, this has added to their burden. Many students have refused to pay the fee, but they will at some stage require the hard copies, during job interviews or for admission purposes,” the teacher added, as per the report.

The principal of a government secondary school told Hindustan Times that the board has set a very minimal fee for receiving the passing certificates, but students of private schools affiliated to the PSEB may be overcharged.

Some sources told Hindustan Times that PSEB is likely to raise the fees for the duplicate mark sheets or the passing certificates. Currently, in case a student loses his/her passing certificate, the board charges Rs 800 to issue a duplicate copy.

As per the report, District education officer Lakhvir Singh Samra said, “We have to follow the orders of the board and nothing can be done in this regard at my level.”
