NEW DELHI: Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi announced that he will set up a new medical college in Sangrur. He will also lay the foundation stone of the medical colleges in Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur.

“CM CharanjitChanni gave go ahead to the recruitment of approximately 3400 various posts in the Health Department. CM to lay the foundation Stones of Medical colleges at Kapurthala & Hoshiarpur soon, also announces to set up a new Medical College in Sangrur with 100% State funding,” CMO Punjab said in a tweet.

Channi took the decision during a review meeting held with the chief secretary and other officials of the Punjab government to discuss the work done so far. He has also given a nod to the recruitment of around 3,400 posts in the health department.

In June, the Punjab government announced to set up four new medical colleges at Mohali, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala and Malerkotla.

Currently, there are about 1,400 MBBS seats in medical colleges in the state, which will increase by 500 with the opening of these colleges.

“Today, gave a nod to fill 10,880 vacant posts in education department. 2000 posts of Physical Education teachers to be created & 3400 recruitment for various posts in the health department. Salaries of 1000 headmaster & teachers, cut due to upper cap made by GoI, to be released, he said today, on November 30.

Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath announced that the foundation stone of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will laid soon in Rewari and Gorakhpur, respectively.
