QS World University Rankings 2024: IIT Bombay jumps to 1st spot in India; IISc out of top 200

QS World Ranking: Chandigarh University has replaced OP Jindal Global University to become the top private university in India. Two more universities ranked.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay has jumped to the first position in top colleges in India with 149th rank as per the QS World University Rankings 2024 released today. IIT Bombay has replaced last year’s top university, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), which has lost its place in the top 200 universities by ranking 225 this year. IIT Delhi moved to the second position, however, slipped to 192 rank.

Besides IISc, three more institutes have ranked in the top 200-300 slab this year including IIT Kharagpur with 271 rank, IIT Kanpur with 278, and IIT Madras with 285. IIT Kharagpur has exchanged positions with IIT Madras this year.

IIT Guwahati and IIT Roorkee have managed to rank in top 300-400 universities with 364 and 369 ranks respectively. Last year, IIT Indore had also ranked in this slab with 396 rank.

Moreover, University of Delhi has improved its position from a rank between 521-530 last year to 407th rank this year. Anna University is also in the top 400-500 universities with 427 rank while IIT Indore has slipped to 454th spot. University of Madras improved its ranking to 526 this year. IIT-Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has made its way to the 500-600 slab with 571 rank.

Further, Jawaharlal Nehru University has achieved a rank in 601-610 range while it ranked in 601-650 slab last year. IIT Hyderabad lost its ranking in comparison to last year and ranked in the 691-700 slab.

Savitribai Phule University which ranked in top 541-550 universities has moved down to the 711-720 range. IIT Bhubaneswar too has jumped to a rank in 731-740 range. Chandigarh University has replaced OP Jindal Global University as the top private university this year.

Lastly, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) and Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Kolkata have made their way to the QS world university rankings 2023 this year with ranks above 1400.
