Recruitment of teachers in state-run schools will start soon, says WBCSSC

Education Minister Bratya Basu said that 5,261 vacant SSC posts will be filled up, appointments will be made based on merit and eligibility.

KOLKATA: West Bengal Central School Service Commission (WBCSSC) on Thursday announced that the process of recruitment of assistant teachers and headmasters in state-run secondary and higher secondary schools will start very soon. Education Minister Bratya Basu told reporters after a cabinet meeting that 5,261 vacant SSC posts will be filled up and the appointments will be made based on merit and eligibility.

Among the vacant posts there will be 750 posts for work education and 850 for physical education, he said. These 1,600 new posts have been created and got the nod of the state cabinet, the minister said. In its notice, the WBCSSC said it will soon issue an advertisement for recruitment for the post of Assistant teachers in Secondary and Higher Secondary schools.

In another notice, the WBCSSC said it will soon issue an “advertisement for recruitment to the posts of headmaster/headmistress in Secondary, Higher Secondary and Junior High Schools and all the relevant details regarding the selection process will be given in a brochure accompanying the advertisement.

Asked about the court cases regarding some of the SSC recruitments, Basu said "I cannot talk about something which did not happen during my tenure. I cannot talk about court cases. But our CM believes in transparency and fairness in recruitment of teachers." Basu earlier said due to court cases, the government was not able to carry on the recruitment process in a full fledged manner.

A school education department official said recently the WBCSSC sought to know about the number of vacant teacher posts in schools from the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.
