Refer to FMGE Regulations before applying to medical courses in China universities: NMC

NMC said China has imposed a travel ban and is conducting online medical courses. The Commission does not approve MBBS studied via online mode.

NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission has advised medical aspirants to “exercise due diligence” before applying to universities in China or anywhere else for MBBS admissions. The Commission issued a notification saying that students should be aware that China has imposed a strict travel ban in view of COVID-19 since November 2020 and various Indian students have not been able to return to China to continue their studies.

“It has come to the notice of the Ministry of External Affairs that few universities in People’s Republic of China have started issuing notices for admission to MBBS programmes for the current and upcoming academic years,” the NMC said in the notification.

While there has been no relaxation in the travel restrictions in China so far, the country’s authorities have conveyed that courses will be conducted online, NMC said.

The Commission informed students that as per extant rules, it does not approve or recognize medical courses studied via online mode only.

Further, it advised students to refer to Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) Regulations before applying to medical courses in any institution of China.

“In view of the above, students are advised to exercise due diligence in choosing where to pursue medical education from,” NMC warned.

Meanwhile, NMC has issued guidelines for the determination of fees and all other charges in respect of 50% of seats in the MBBS and PG medical courses at private, deemed to be universities, governed under the NMC Act, 2019.
