Remain strong, safe and alert: Indian embassy in Ukraine to stranded Indian students

NEW DELHI: The Indian embassy in Ukraine has asked the Indian students who are stranded in the war-hit country to remain "strong, safe and alert." The embassy said in an advisory that the government is making efforts to evacuate them through the Romanian and Hungarian border crossings at the Chop-Zahony border point of Hungary and Porubne-Stret border point of the Romanian border. It asked everyone to stick the Indian flag pictures on the vehicles in which they are travelling.

"In this difficult situation, the embassy of India requests Indians to continue to remain strong, safe and alert. The embassy is also working round the clock to support the Indian community in Ukraine. The government of India and the embassy are working to establish evacuation routes from Romania and Hungary," it said.

The embassy asked Indian students close to the Chop-Zahony and Porubne-Stret border points to move to these points along with the teams from the external affairs ministry to get evacuated.

"Once above routes are operational, Indian nationals travelling by their own arrangements for transport would be advised to proceed to above border checkpoints, and remain in touch with the helpline numbers set up at respective checkpoints for facilitation through the border," it said. The embassy advisory also said the contact numbers would be shared once the control rooms are established.

The embassy asked students to stay in touch with student contractors to enable orderly movement and to carry important documents such as passports, cash for emergency expenses, and COVID-19 vaccination certificate, if available.
