#reopenDU: Students of Delhi University demand reopening of colleges
Delhi will reopen schools, colleges tomorrow. However, Delhi University said that they will hold meetings internally to discuss the resumption of offline classes. Meanwhile, #reopendu trends on Twitter.

NEW DELHI: After the Delhi government gave a nod to reopen schools and colleges from September 1, Delhi University said that the decision on resuming offline classes will be taken only after deliberations. Several students took to Twitter to express their disappointment. DU students have been requesting the university to reopen colleges using hashtag #reopenDU. Many also expressed their concern over the pandemic-induced disruption in education sector and learning loss.

"We have an executive council meeting on August 31 and we will plan (on reopening colleges) after that. We won't be able to resume from September 1. Whenever we reopen, we will first open for Science students," PTI quoted DU registrar Vikas Gupta as saying.

On Monday, the Delhi government issued SOPs for reopening of schools and colleges. Mandatory thermal screening, staggered lunch breaks, alternate seating arrangements in classrooms and avoiding routine guest visits are among the guidelines.

A Delhi University student, in a tweet, said, “What's the point of studying online only to get a degree and be clueless?”
"..Can you just imagine the pain of studying PDFs in laptop?! A year gone and it's enough now. Not because I want to go out or enjoy college life, but because I am not learning anything." "What's the point of graduating from a prestigious college like Delhi University?" the Twitter user said.

Another DU student said, “As we notice the corona cases graph in the whole month of August, cases are decreasing day by day and yesterday we recorded least no. of corona cases after the 2nd wave. And mostly students are vaccinated, even me myself is fully vaccinated! So please reopen colleges asap.#reopenDU.”

Requesting to reopen Delhi University, a student said, “I don’t understand what is wrong with opening educational institutions?! Cases are down more than 1.2 cr doses have been given to Delhite then why are you not REOPENING School and colleges?? Is is bcz they doesnt generate revenue like BARS?”

“Now even DDMA has allowed to reopen schools, colleges from 1 Sept. When will DU reopen its colleges? It’s high time now. Students are facing a lot of problems in online studying. They also deserve physical learning and college,” a student said.

The Delhi University was shut since March last year due to Covid-19 pandemic. This year in February, the university allowed final year students to return to colleges for accessing labs and take practical classes. However, the classes were suspended again in April due to the second wave of Covid-19.
