NEW DELHI, FEB 23: The Nagpur University Vice Chancellor has refuted the news that as many as 109 affiliated colleges are being disaffiliated by the University for failing to apply for affiliation in last five years.
There were reports in media stating that the decision regarding disaffiliation of 109 errant colleges was taken during the board of deans meeting of the Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University also known as Nagpur University held last week.
Dr. Siddharthavinayaka P. Kane VC he termed such news as baseless. Speaking to Careers360 he said, “we cannot disaffiliate running institutions like that, as this will affect the future of student enrolled in these institutions. We take action against colleges if they are found violating norms. If a college is not seeing admissions and is willing to close down then it can lead to disaffiliation or non-renewal of its affiliation.”
The VC also informed that he did not have information related to the news being circulated and why the Pro VC has been dragged into it.
As per the reports, Pro-VC Pramod Yeole told reporters that the university had sent these colleges reminders and sought details like intake capacity, courses being run by them, and if they had approval for affiliation, but got no response.
The Pro-VC was quoted saying, “At the beginning of this academic year, there were around 190 such colleges running without affiliation. We had barred them from admitting students in the first year for 2017-18. Around 80 then furnished details and applied for approval.”
