NEW DELHI: Following massive protests by students of the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Patiala over alleged violation of girl students’ privacy after the vice-chancellor's visit to girls hostel, the university has decided to remain closed until further orders. Students have been given permission to go back to their homes.

The law university’s students staged a ‘dharna’ outside the VC Jai Shankar Singh’s residence with placards saying “not your daughter” among others, and demanded his resignation. The college-goers alleged that the university head conducted a surprise check and passed derogatory comments on the clothes of girl students.

Following the incident, the NLU Patiala formed a committee to resolve the grievances, however, no student representative turned up to discuss and resolve the issues, as per the university.

“On the representation of the students, a Committee was constituted to resolve the grievances of the students. The committee convened its meeting at 02:45 pm on 23.09.2024 in the Conference Hall, Admn. Block requesting the batch representatives of students to come to discuss and resolve the issues amicably. However, none of the student/batch representatives turned up,” RGNUL said in an office order.
