RRB NTPC Protest: Student organisations calls for Bihar bandh

NEW DELHI: The protest against the alleged discrepancies in the railway recruitment exam, Non-Technical Popular Categories (RRB-NTPC) exam 2021 is continuing with protestors blocking roads in Patna. Many joined the protest in support of the Bihar bandh called by student organisations and political parties, reported the ANI.

According to various media reports, some students have been arrested for vandalism, while several others, including teachers of coaching centres, have been charged for inciting violence. An FIR has also been filed against a YouTuber called ‘Khan Sir’.

The Railway Recruitment Board decided to conduct the RRB NTPC exam in two sessions. But according to the protestors and candidates, it is unfair to ask them to appear for the second exam as only one exam was mentioned in the RRB notification in 2019. Around 60 lakh candidates had appeared for the RRB NTPC exams competing for the 35,000 vacancies. Due to the continuing protests, RRB had decided to postpone the RRB NTPC CBT 2 and level 1 exams, which was supposed to be conducted from February 15 to 19.

Various student organisations such as the All India Students’ Association (AISA), Student Federation of India (SFI), All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) came forward in support of the protesting aspirants. The AISA had called for Bihar bandh, and the SFI organised a protest at Rail Bhavan, Delhi, against the police brutality on protesting aspirants of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

The Indian National Congress (INC) also extended its support for the RRB NTPC exam candidates and urged the government to solve the issue through dialogue. As per a report by the PTI, Rahul Gandhi, party leader of Congress said that students were the hope of their families and the country.

The railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has assured the candidates that their grievances will be resolved. In an interview on DD News, he mentioned the steps being taken by the ministry to solve the issues raised by students in RRB NTPC railway recruitment.
