Budaun: Seven students fall ill after meal at residential school

BUDAUN: Seven students fell ill after eating a meal at the Jayaprakash Narayan Sarvodaya Residential Girls' School in the Samrer block of Dataganj tehsil here, officials said on Sunday. Police said students were admitted to the Samrer Community Health Centre (CHC) around 12.30 am on Saturday.

After receiving primary treatment, families took five students home, stating they would seek further treatment at a private hospital.

Medical Officer at CHC Samrer Likima Ram said prima facie, it appears the students fell ill due to the heat. He said the administration would collect food samples, and the investigation would clarify whether the meal was an issue. Rajendra Prasad, the principal of the residential school, said three students had fallen ill due to the heat.

District Magistrate (DM) Avnish Kumar Rai said a committee comprising the Sub-Divisional Magistrate and the Tehsildar has been constituted to investigate the matter, and the enquiry report is expected by this evening.

Doctors at the CHC referred some students to the District Hospital. From there, they were sent to the Government Medical College and the condition of the two students is now stable. The DM said the investigation into the entire incident is underway, and the strictest possible action will be taken against anyone found guilty.
