NEW DELHI: After heavy monsoon rains inundated several parts of the country, educational institutions including schools and colleges have been asked to go on holiday for today, July 10. Schools including in Delhi NCR, some districts in Kerala, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh have been ordered shut in view of heavy rains and considering the safety of the students, teaching and the non-teaching staff.

On Sunday, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a holiday for all schools for today. Schools across all boards -- state government, private and semi government-aided schools in Delhi will have a holiday today. The announcement comes after the Safdarjung observatory, the city's primary weather station, recorded 153 mm rain in the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on Sunday, July 9, the highest since the 24-hour rainfall of 169.9 mm on July 25, 1982

Also, in view of the heavy rains in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida and water logging in and around, schools have been ordered shut across all boards. Heavy rainfall resulting in severe waterlogging and traffic congestion in Gurugram on Sunday also made the administration announce a holiday for schools.
