NEW DELHI: After heavy monsoon rains inundated several parts of the country, educational institutions including schools and colleges have been asked to go on holiday for today, July 10. Schools including in Delhi NCR, some districts in Kerala, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh have been ordered shut in view of heavy rains and considering the safety of the students, teaching and the non-teaching staff.
On Sunday, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a holiday for all schools for today. Schools across all boards -- state government, private and semi government-aided schools in Delhi will have a holiday today. The announcement comes after the Safdarjung observatory, the city's primary weather station, recorded 153 mm rain in the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on Sunday, July 9, the highest since the 24-hour rainfall of 169.9 mm on July 25, 1982
Also, in view of the heavy rains in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida and water logging in and around, schools have been ordered shut across all boards. Heavy rainfall resulting in severe waterlogging and traffic congestion in Gurugram on Sunday also made the administration announce a holiday for schools.

The Haryana education department said, "Due to heavy rains, all the examinations of Kurukshetra University have been postponed till July 13."

Himachal Pradesh has witnessed "widespread heavy rains" first time in the past 50 years and the state has suffered a loss of about Rs 3,000 crore in this monsoon season so far, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said. About 17 persons have died in rain-related incidents in the state in the past two days. The schools have been ordered to shut down tomorrow as well.

Due to the continuous rain in the state, due to the safety of the Punjab government, with immediate effect, all the government/aided/recognized and private schools of the state have holidays till 13th July 2023, a social media post of Punjab education minister said.

Several parts of the national capital are inundated. River Yamuna inches closer to its warning level.

Schools in Faridabad are closed today in view of the rains and water logging in some parts of the city.
Buland Shahar and Bhaghpat have announced holidays for schools amid rains and offline classes will not be held for Class 1 to 12.
Schools in Punjab's Chandigarh will remain closed today as some parts of the city are inundated.
"Keeping in view the heavy rains in the district, on July 10, 2023, the schools from Class 1 to Class 12 of all the boards of the district will remain closed," Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Budha Nagar DM in a social media post said.

In view of Delhi rains today and waterlogging caused by the torrential rains in several parts, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal will hold a meeting today to discuss waterlogging in the city and Yamuna’s rising water levels.
Announcing the holiday in schools and colleges, a state government statement said: "Amid heavy rains across Punjab since the last few days and multiple cases of flooding in and around Sutlej river, holiday have been announced in all schools, educational institutions etc. under Ludhiana."

Considering the heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh, the chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the closure of all educational institutions in the state for today, July 10 and July 11.
"In view of the heavy rains in the state, all government and private educational institutions recognized by the state government will remain closed on July 10 and 11," a social media post of the chief minister read.
The directorate of school education in Haryana has asked the deputy commissioners of the state to access the situation and take a call on the closure of schools. Schools in Gurugram, Faridabad and Panchkula have been ordered shut.
