School Holidays: J-K, Kerala, Maharashtra educational institutions to remain closed till Dec 14

Schools and educational institutions across states will likely remain closed from December 8 to 14 due to several factors, including harsh weather conditions and local body elections. The Jammu and Kashmir school education department has also announced winter vacation for classes from pre-primary to 12th.

Later in this month, all educational institutions will also remain closed on December 25th on account of Christmas, and several institutions are expected to close on December 31 as well.

According to several media reports, schools will remain shut in Kerala due to local body elections, in Maharashtra due to teachers’ strike, and conditions have worsened in several parts of the south, including Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh.

J-K winter vacation

J-K school education board has announced dates for vacation across the winter zones. As per the official J-K notice, all teaching faculty will remain available for any academic activity during the vacation period. The teachers have been directed to report back to their respective schools on February 20.

Kerala schools due to local body elections

As per media reports, all schools will remain closed till December 11 due to the general local body elections. The results for all 1,199 local bodies are scheduled to be announced on December 13. The voters in 7 districts of Kerala began casting ballots from 7 am today.

Tamil Nadu, AP, Puducherry schools shut

According to local media reports, persistent moderate to heavy rain from Cyclone Ditwah has resulted in the closure of schools across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh from 8 to 13 December. However, there is no official announcement on this. The district authorities have advised families to stay connected with schools for day-to-day updates.

Maharashtra schools closed

In Maharashtra, school closures are expected in the Marathwada region amid an ongoing teachers’ and staff strike over mandatory TET requirements. According to local and regional media, many schools are expected to stay shut throughout the week as protests persist ahead of the Class 10 board exam. However, schools in Mumbai are expected to operate as usual.
