NEW DELHI: Several states across India are experiencing heavy rains, leading to waterlogged areas and concerns for safety. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange alerts in various regions, indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall and potential hazards.
As a precautionary measure, school holidays have been declared in several states which include Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Kerala and others ensuring the safety of students and staff.
The authorities in these states are closely monitoring the weather situation and taking necessary precautions to ensure the safety and well-being of students and educational staff.

Maharashtra: The state of Maharashtra is grappling with heavy rains, particularly in parts of Raigad district. In response to the IMD's orange alert for the region, the Raigad district collector has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges today. This decision aims to mitigate the risk posed by the adverse weather conditions.
Kerala: In Kerala, schools in Kannur, Wayanad, Malappuram, and Kozhikode districts will remain closed on July 25. The decision was taken by the administration considering the heavy rainfall in these districts.
Karnataka: In response to the heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions, schools and colleges in Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have declared a holiday for today. The district administration has issued an orange alert, indicating the likelihood of heavy rain and potential hazards. The district collector, Venkataraj, made the announcement, urging residents to stay vigilant and follow safety guidelines during this period of heightened rainfall.
Apart from heavy rainfall, there are also other reasons for which schools in some states of India are closed today.
Arunachal Pradesh: In Arunachal Pradesh, schools in Longding district will remain closed until July 29 due to an outbreak of conjunctivitis. The measure is taken to contain the spread of the infection and safeguard the health of students and staff.
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana: Moreover, leaders of the All India Students’ Federation (AISF) and CPI have announced a holiday for educational institutions today in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The students' unions are protesting against irregularities in the education sector, demanding improved facilities in hostels and a decrease in mess charges. Additionally, they seek the government's attention to fill vacant posts of wardens, cooks, and watchmen in the hostels.
Parents, students, and educational institutions are urged to stay informed about any further announcements from the respective state governments and district administrations. As the monsoon season continues, it is crucial for everyone to exercise caution, follow safety guidelines, and be prepared for any adverse weather conditions.
