Kiren Rijiju visits Sharda University Noida for international conference on decolonisation

Union minister of parliamentary affairs Kiren Rijiju recently visited Sharda University Greater Noida to attend a two-day international conference held to discuss the reclamation of Indian cultural heritage and breaking free from the colonial past. This was Rijiju’s second visit to the university.

The conference titled “Decolonizing Colonial Infrastructure: A Path to Indigenous Revival” was jointly organised by the Indian culture global centre, faculty of humanities and social sciences, Sharda University and the international centre for cultural studies (ICCS).

During his address, the union minister reminded the students that a nation’s strength lies in its roots. “Many young people today struggle to recall the names of their own villages but can easily name foreign cities,” he said.

Rijiju emphasised the importance of preserving one's mother tongue and cultural heritage saying, “true success is achieved when people from other countries connect with and appreciate your culture”.

Sharda University: Two-day conference

PK Gupta, chancellor of Sharda University Noida, also addressed the conference and said, “To promote Indian culture globally, we must unite and share our heritage with as many countries as possible. Indigenous progress is rooted in honesty and culture.”

“Students should learn about their regional culture. The first teacher for a child is the mother. Therefore, it's essential to educate girls and provide them with job reservations.” He added.

The two-day international conference brought up ideas like integration of Indian knowledge systems and Indianising the existing colonial infrastructure. It was attended by Sibaram Khara, vice chancellor, Sharda University along with deans and directors.
