Students burn NEET admit card 2020 to protest against exam

NEW DELHI: To mark their protest against conducting the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2020 and Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main 2020, students burnt their NEET admit card on Wednesday. They posted photos and videos of themselves burning the papers on social media with the hashtag #AntiStudentModiGovt #POSTPONEJEE_NEET.

Soon after the National Testing Agency released the NEET 2020 admit card, several students uploaded videos and photos burning their admit card on social media.

Many students are also requesting other aspirants not to download the admit card. They argue that the number of downloads will be used as an excuse to justify the holding the exams amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In an interview with DD News, the Union education minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said that 85 percent of JEE aspirants have downloaded their admit cards. Pokhriyal further said that out of 8.85 lakh students who registered for JEE, 7.25 lakh candidates downloaded their admit cards for the examination scheduled in September. NTA released the JEE Main admit card on August 17.

The students campaigning against conducting the medical and engineering entrance exam are further requesting to check details without downloading the admit card.

Agitated by the minister’s remark, an aspirant tweeted: “Downloading admit card is not a sign that we are ready sir...we are forced to do so... because it's our lives nothing happens to u...if anyone [in] your family your son or daughter were in the same situation what will u do?”

Disappointed by the government’s apathy towards students, another aspirant burnt the admit card and called it the “downfall of the government”.

With a picture of a burning admit card, another student condemned Pokhriyal’s remarks on downloading the admit card. “If exams are conducted students life will be in danger. We didn't expect such stupid answers from an HRD minister,” he said.
