Supreme Court hearing on NEET PG Counselling 2021 to resume tomorrow

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court will resume hearing on EWS, OBC reservation in NEET PG Counselling tomorrow, January 6. The matter was listed today after the Centre requested an 'urgent hearing'.

A two-judge bench comprising Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice AS Bopanna said that the matter on EWS, OBC reservation in all India PG, MBBS, MD, MS, MDS seats will be heard tomorrow.

Senior Advocate Arvind Datar suggested postponing the implementation of EWS, OBC reservation to the next NEET PG admission. While Solicitor General Tushar Mehta for Centre has urged the Supreme Court to allow commencement of NEET counselling.

Arguing that the NEET PG admission should be merit-based, Senior Advocate Shyam Divan said, “In many courses, postgraduate is the end of the road, and that is the super-speciality in some departments. So the principle regarding super-speciality courses will apply to postgraduate courses too.”

The top court agreed to hear the NEET PG Counselling dates delay case today, January 5, 2022, after the Centre on Monday requested the top court to schedule a hearing in a matter related to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota, citing "some urgency". The matter was earlier listed for hearing on January 6.
