Cyclone Ditwah: Chennai district collector Rashmi Siddharth Zagade has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges because of the intense rainfall. Madras University has postponed all theory exams.

All educational institutions in Chennai and Tiruvallur will remain shut tomorrow, December 3, due to heavy rainfall in the region. As per several media reports, Chennai district collector Rashmi Siddharth Zagade has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges because of intense rainfall.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a bulletin that heavy spells accompanied by moderate thunderstorms with maximum wind velocity of 40 - 60 kmph are likely in Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu districts.
The University of Madras has also announced the postponement of all undergraduate and postgraduate exams scheduled for December 3. In a notice issued by the university’s registrar, Rita John said that the revised dates for the exams postponed will be announced shortly.

Several parts of northern Tamil Nadu on Tuesday continued to witness rains, and the death toll due to rain-related incidents across the state increased to 4. Additionally, standing crops on more than 2 lakh acres were destroyed. The IMD bulletin said that on December 3, heavy to very heavy rain is likely in a number of districts, including the Nilgiris.
“According to the IMD, the deep depression over Bay of Bengal weakened on December 2 into a depression. It is very likely to continue to move slowly towards the north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts as a depression and then further weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area.”
The Greater Chennai Corporation said that it has deployed around 22,000 personnel, including officials, to handle rain-related tasks such as clearing clogged drains, removing fallen tree branches, and pumping out stagnant water.
