RTE Application 2026: Children whose family income is less than Rs 2 lakh per annum are eligible for admission to Class 1 and LKG. There is a 25% reservation in unaided, non-minority private schools in Tamil Nadu.

The Directorate of Private Schools, Tamil Nadu, has started the TN RTE 2026 registration for admission to LKG and Class 1 students. Parents can apply online for the Right to Education - RTE 2026 through the official website at tnschools.gov.in by May 18.
As per the eligibility criteria, only students whose family income is less than Rs 2 lakh are eligible to apply for the TN RTE 2026.
Moreover, those from economically weaker sections (EWS) and disadvantaged groups, including orphans, HIV-affected or infected children, transfender, kids of sanitation workers, and those with disabilities are also eligible for admission to LKG and Class 1 through TN RTE 2026 registration.
Students at LKG and Class 1 will be admitted through a lottery system and have a separate criteria, including reservations for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC).
Documents needed for the TN RTE 2026 registration for admission to LKG and Class 1 includes a recent passport-size photograph of the child, student’s birth certificate, income certificate for EWS students, govt ID proof such as Aadhaar Card, Ration Card or Voter ID, community certificate for disadvantaged groups students, special category certificate if applicable.

The department has fixed 25% reservation in unaided, non-minority private schools under the RTE Act for the admission cycle 2026-27.
