UGC asks universities to avail ICT services through 3.75 lakh CSCs

NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has written to the vice-chancellors’ of all universities and principals of colleges regarding the delivery of various services related to Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) through 3.75 lakh Common Service Centre (CSCs) of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in rural India.

The UGC letter said, “The Ministry has enabled the establishment of CSCs in all gram panchayats of the country for digital delivery of government services to the citizens within their vicinity under the Digital India programme.”
“The objective is to set up at least one CSC in every Gram Panchayat and promote rural enterprises enabled through an integrated ICT platform,” it said.
“For the integration of the various services being provided by universities and Colleges with the Digital Sewa Portal of CSC, HEls are requested to contact the CSCs CSPOC in their respective state for availing their ICT services,” the letter further said.
These centres will provide digital delivery of government services to the citizens under the Digital India programme. The establishment of CSCs in gram panchayats will provide these services within the vicinity of citizens, making it more accessible for the people.
The government intends to establish at least one CSC in every Gram Panchayat. This will promote rural enterprises enabled through an integrated lCT platform. CSCs have a wide network in the country. With this advantage, they are delivering their services in some universities across the country presently.
In universities, the CSC provides certain services like admission form filling, certificates requests, fee payment, admit card downloads and other services like preparation of various courses, online admission management system etc.

The names of universities integrated with the CSCS network ecosystem along with the state-wise network of CSCs SPOC has been provided in the letter for reference. Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, Sambalpur University, Utkal University, Sant Longowal institute of engineering and technology (SLIET), . National Institute of Open School, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Ravenshaw University, are some among them.
“For any further clarification the HEIs are requested to coordinate with Sarthik Sachdeva, vice president, CSCSPV (Special Purpose Vehicle),” the UGC letter mentioned.
