UGC issues notice to 21 DU Colleges; asks to initiate Principals appointment process by August 31

NEW DELHI, AUGUST 28: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued notice to as many as 21 Colleges affiliated to the University of Delhi (DU) to initiate the appointment process of full-time Principals by August 31. The Commission has also warned these colleges of fund cut if they fail to initiate the process.

Some of the well-known colleges of the University like Hindu College, Kirorimal College, Jesus and Mary College, Kamla Nehru College have been running headless for years as the Governing Body did not initiate the process for appointment of the full-time Principal.

Earlier on June 5 this year, the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) called for a meeting of the Chairpersons of the Governing body of these colleges to expedite the appointment process. The Ministry directed the Governing Body the expedite the appointment process.

As per the UGC notice it has asked the colleges to expedite the selection process for a full-time Principal in these college. The Commission has asked the colleges to inform the date of interview for the post of the Principal latest by August 31, failing which the UGC will be forced to ‘withhold’ the release of further grants.
