NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has launched a capacity-building training for non-teaching staff from central universities in collaboration with the Capacity Building Commission. The commission aims to train at least 5,000 employees of all 45 CUs in the first phase.

The UGC training covers topics such as understanding psychology in workflow, utilizing technology in workflow, grasping the higher education ecosystem, managing academics, handling establishment matters, managing finances, and project management.

The trainees have been asked to finish these courses in four months. The courses are available on the iGOT (Integrated Government Online Training) Mission Karmayogi platform. The staff members of universities will also get certificates upon completion of the courses, UGC said.

Recently, UGC launched an Annual Capacity Building Plan for its staff wherein they are being trained in behavioral, functional, domain, and technology competencies. As per the commission, over 635 UGC employees have completed around 5,480 courses so far.

Capacity-building of university members

“Based on UGC's experience in capacity building of its staff, UGC has now decided to expand this program to the Central Universities,” the commission said in an official statement.

The commission joined hands with the Capacity Building Commission team last year and conducted assessments to identify the specific capacity needs of its employees. These needs were classified into behavioral, functional, and domain competencies and accordingly training programmes were designed to address these competency gaps.

The union government established the Capacity Building Commission (CBC) to improve standardization and coordination across various civil services in the country. The CBC operates under the 'Mission Karmayogi' of the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT), with a primary focus on enhancing skills, knowledge, and abilities of government employees.
