NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar has informed that the UGC National Eligibility Test (UGC NET 2024) June registration is expected to begin today or tomorrow, April 20. Once the registration begins, interested applicants will be able to fill the UGC NET 2024 June application form by visiting the official website, ugcnet.nta.ac.in.

In a latest update, the UGC chairman posted on X: “NTA will likely launch the application process and information bulletin for the UGC-NET June 2024 session by tonight or tomorrow.” The UGC NET is a national-level examination administered to assess candidates' eligibility for the position of Assistant Professor, or for both the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor roles in Indian universities and colleges.

UGC NET 2024 eligibility criteria

Candidates can have a look at the UGC NET 2024 eligibility criteria below.

  • General category candidates must secure a minimum of 50% marks in their master's degree.
  • OBC, ST, SC, PWD, Transgender candidates also need to achieve at least 50% aggregate marks in their master's degree.
  • Candidates currently in the final year of their master's program are eligible for UGC NET 2024 if they fulfill the educational criteria within two years.
  • PhD holders who completed their master's degree before September 19, 1991, are eligible for a 5% relaxation in aggregate marks.
  • Applicants with a post-graduate diploma or certificate from any Indian or foreign university must ensure that their master's degree is recognized by Indian universities through the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi.

In the previous year, a total of 9,45,918 candidates registered for the UGC NET December 2023 examination, out of which 6,95,928 appeared for the exam across 292 cities nationwide. The exams took place from December 6 to December 14. Initially scheduled to be announced on January 10, the results were postponed to January 17 for reasons unknown. Further delays ensued due to technical difficulties.
