UGC urges higher institutions to celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21

UGC has asked universities to share the videos and pictures of the International Yoga Day event on social media platforms for a wider reach.

NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has urged the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21. The UGC informed that, the Ministry of Ayush has begun organizing a number of countdown activities at educational institutions to create an environment for the International Yoga Day celebration.

The UGC official notice read, "As you are aware, the International Day of Yoga (lDY) is celebrated every year on June 21. lt has effectively facilitated the global dissemination of the significance of practicing yoga for overall health and well-being and enduring sustainable lifestyle. This year the Ministry of Ayush has started organizing various countdown activities all over India to build momentum towards the International Day of Yoga. "

Adherence to MCC guidelines for International Yoga Day celebration

As per UGC notice, the Ministry of Ayush has obtained special permission from the Election Commission of India to organize these activities complying with the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) guidelines. The UGC has said that the universities are required to adhere to the MCC guidelines while celebrating International Yoga Day on June 21. The MCC guidelines have been enclosed with the UGC notice for reference.

UGC ask universities to upload photos on social media

In line with the Common Yoga Protocol, the UGC has suggested hosting an IDY countdown event at Higher Education Institutions by June 21, 2024. Additionally, the UGC has urged the telecast of Yoga Day celebration videos on diverse social media platforms to extend their reach and inspire a broader audience.

The official notice read, “It is requested that proceedings of this event be recorded and subsequently uploaded on various social media platforms tagging the Ministry of Ayush to ensure wider reach. This initiative will enable us to reach a wider audience and inspire individuals to incorporate Yoga into their daily lives for their overall well-being.”
