NMC drafts framework for accreditation, ranking of medical colleges

NMC’s MARB will assess medical colleges based on curriculum implementation, clinical training, teaching environment, student admissions, and other criteria.

NEW DELHI: The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), National Medical Commission (NMC) has drafted the framework for accreditation and ranking of medical colleges. The board has asked the medical fraternity to submit their suggestions through an online platform.

“The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), National Medical Commission (NMC), in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 26(1)(d) of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019; intends to carry-out accreditation & rating of all Medical Colleges regulated by the NMC, through an independent third party agency,” the commission said in an official statement.

As per NMC guidelines, the following criteria will be used for ranking colleges, along with the given weightage:

In 2023, MARB partnered with the Quality Council of India (QCI) for assessment of medical colleges. NMC framed “Establishment of medical institutions, assessment and rating regulations, 2023,” wherein it said that the MARB may appoint one or more independent third-party agencies to conduct assessment and rating of medical colleges on its behalf.
